ORLANDO, Fla.- “Facing The Giants” and “Fireproof” are two faith-based movies that have captured many viewer’s in such a powerful way in where their purpose is to send out a message in where their audience can relate to. David Nixon helped produce and direct both films that have lead him to start producing future films that are Christian based and have true life meaning to them.

“God had a purpose for my life” said Nixon, who growing up always wanted to make films that could touch people in real life situations.

He is currently about to release his new film called “Letter’s to God”, a movie that is based on a true story that is about a young boy who suffers from brain cancer and writes letters to God. The movie itself was filmed in Orlando.

The movie is set to be “heart whelming,” said Nixon who hopes that the movie will help people who are diagnosed with cancer and bring out awareness to those who don’t know how deadly cancer can be. The movie will be showing about 150 screenings before it is released.

“Letters to God,” got its inspiration from films like “Facing the Giants” and “Fireproof” that are created to send a message to their viewers and bring true meaning to their films. The movie itself doesn’t include any famous actor’s but its unique in its own way. The boys father who is suffering from cancer in real life wrote the script and came to find out that his son did write a letter to God.

“Its very critical to shoot a movie,” said Nixon, he explained that directing and producing the movie “Letters to God,” and other films is not easy.

The key factors in shooting a movie are to have a great screenplay and for the dialogue to be real so it can capture the audience attention.

The movie “Letters to God” is also going to be a memorial to Tyler who is in true life the young boy that suffered from brain cancer and once it is released most of its fund will be donated to the cancer research centers and Christian ministries. Nixon has already picked out his next film and will have many more in the coming years.

“I always start up with an up beat song,“ said John Gorka, who performed in the Performing Arts center located at the Valencia East Campus this past Wednesday. He started his performance by playing his acoustic guitar while the audience applauds him on.

Gorka, who started as an opener for visiting acts in performing his own songs, has come a long way as a musician whose unique voice, lyric’s and style are what have attracted many of his fans and have made him well known in the folk music industry.

“I have been a fan for about 15 years,” said Steve Drummond who owns every Gorka album. He enjoys listening to his music because of the “quality of his voice,” said Drummond.

During Gorka’s act, he performed various songs like “I Think of You”, “The Gypsy Life,” and “People My Age.” He even took requests from the audience toward the end of his performance, which the audience very much appreciated.

“I can relate personal memories to his songs,” said Kris Stenger who was waiting to get his CD signed, along with many others, by Gorka.

People, movies and his personal life inspire the songs Gorka has written. Many people in the audience can relate to his songs because they all have a meaning to them and most of which are based on real life.

“I have been very privileged,” said Gorka who is an inspiration to many aspiring musician’s because having lived in a club basement and working as a soundman, he has not only toured throughout the US, but also to various countries like: Scotland, Italy and Germany. This shows how it doesn’t matter where you start out, but where you will end up.

“He has his own style, like old school,” said Steve Berke who is a student at Valencia and is majoring in recording engineering. It shows how young aspiring musicians like Berke himself admire and are influenced by Gorka’s music and his style of playing.

WINTER GARDEN, FL. —Toddlers of 6 months- 3 year olds listened as Mrs. Ursula read the “Baby Farm Animal’s book", at the Barnes & Noble for Tuesday Terrific Toddler Story time located in the kids room.

It didn’t take them long to start yelling out the farm animals name while Mrs.Ursula read, “ This is actually my second time reading to the children”, said Mrs.Ursula who is an employee at Barnes &Noble and volunteers to do the story readings.

There were not that many toddlers that attended the reading but it only takes a few to start up a room full of laughs and movement. Some parents also joined along with the reading , “First time being here in the storytelling,” said Christie who was one of the parents there.

Teaching a child the fundamentals of reading at a early age is very important, “Extremely important ,” said Jorge who was also one of the parents there. Some parents might not realize that reading to their child at an early age can make a big difference in their development.

A second book was also read to the children, “My First Counting Book,” in which the children enjoyed, some of the children even knew all the numbers and yelled them out with excitement, it is fulfilling to see how children can learn at an early age if you teach them.

Once stories were all read, the children were given a coloring paper and markers that went along with the readings.

One of the toddlers accidentally used on of the markers to color her face, its funny how children can do silly things and laugh at it themselves. Creating activities that can go along with the readings is beneficial to get the child more involved with what’s being read to them.

Tuesday Terrific Toddler Story time is not only about reading but also a place in where the children can interact with each other and make new friends, its always good for children to play be around someone there age.

The Barnes & Noble offers a wide variety of children’s books and it even has a train station area in where the children can play with trains.

Even though there were not that many children that attended it was still a fun-filled day. “yes I do enjoy reading to the children,” said Mrs. Ursula who hopes that in near future the audience will grow more an more each time this event takes place.

Tuesday Terrific Toddler Story telling welcomes all children to come join the excitement of the reading and activities that are offered at no cost in a unforgettable learning experience.
